Gas Safely was founded in 2008 by John DeBernardo a Certifying Plumber & Gasfitter, Worksafe Approved Practitioner, and Licensed Electrical Technician, with over 40 years direct industry experience gained throughout New Zealand, Australia, and the Asia-Pacific region.

His specialised knowledge in the fields of gas industry regulation, codes, standards and process heating technology has enabled him to successfully carry out the design, installation, commissioning, and certification of a large number of commercial and industrial appliances and installations ranging from simple boiler and burner plant to offshore petrochemical platforms.

Gas Safely are members of Master Plumbers, Gasfitters & Drainlayers NZ Inc, and John is a member of the NZ Institution of Gas Engineers Inc. and the Institute of Refrigeration, Heating & Air Conditioning Engineers of New Zealand Inc.

John is also a sitting member on a number of joint New Zealand/Australian gas appliance and gas installation Standards committees. In 2007 he was recipient of a Standards New Zealand Meritorious Service Award, and in 2014 he received a Standards New Zealand Outstanding Contribution Award for services to Standards.
